Why we created this trip

We created this crossing to make you feel the change of pace that begins when the road gives way to sand. Here, travelling is not about stacking up stages: it invites you to move through immensity, to share the hours around the bivouac and to rediscover silence. The Grand Erg Occidental then becomes less a landscape to photograph than a place to inhabit for a few days.

Day 1Ghardaia and the farmFlight from Algiers

Flight from Algiers, welcome at Ghardaia airport, transfer to the farm, check-in, dinner and overnight.

Day 2First crossingFarm breakfast

Farm breakfast, off by 4x4 for 80 km through the dunes, a picnic lunch, camp set-up, a Bedouin dinner, live music and a night in camp.

Day 3Deep in the Grand ErgOn across 80 km of tracks

On across 80 km of tracks, lunch out in the open, sandboarding and archery, a traditional dinner, an evening under the stars and a night in camp.

Day 4Back to the farmReturn by road

Return by road, lunch at the farm, a free afternoon, then a look around the farm, a cooking workshop around the local cheese, dinner and overnight.

Day 5ReturnBreakfast

Breakfast, then transfer to Ghardaia airport for the return flight via Algiers.
