We created this crossing for travellers who want to go beyond a first look at the Sahara. The Tassili plateau has to be earned on foot, but in return it offers a rare relationship with the landscape and with the traces left by ancient civilisations. We wanted a slow, demanding and silent journey, where each bivouac brings you a little closer to Sefar and to the history carved into the stone.
Flight from Algiers to Djanet, arriving around 1:30 am, welcome by the guide and transfer. After breakfast, the trek starts at 7:00 am with the climb onto the plateau. Lunch, discovery of Tamrit and the first rock paintings at Tan Zoumaitak. Camp at Ouan Gouffa.
Walk towards Ouen Touhami, lunch on the way, then the first great fresco ensembles of White Sefar. Camp set-up and night under the stars.
A day devoted to Tin Tazareft, Tetarast N'Elias, Black Sefar and the inscriptions of Tin Tifinagh. After lunch, on to Aoujoujoum, dinner and camp.
The trek continues to Tin Kani, lunch there, then a walk to Alagh N'Demen. Camp set-up and dinner.
The crossing continues on foot across the plateau along the route planned by the local team, with lunch, dinner and a night in camp.
Discovery of Idjabarene, lunch, then dinner and night in camp on the plateau.
Descent from the plateau via the Tehe N'Aghoum pass, lunch, then return to Djanet by 4x4.
Lunch, check-in at the lodge for a shower and some rest, Saharan dinner, then transfer to the airport. Flight to Algiers around 2:00 am.
A trek stage combining the valley of thousand-year-old cypresses with the first rock paintings of the route.
The rock-art heart of the crossing, explored on foot through several great ensembles of frescoes and inscriptions.
One last great stage on the plateau before the descent to Djanet.
Nights under canvas are part of the experience: progress, silence, meals at camp and the Tassili sky.
